U Music Privacy Policy

1. Information we process and scope

This app does not require an account. The developer does not operate servers for storing your music, lyrics, playback history, or WebDAV credentials. Music and library data are primarily stored on your device. The online features you choose to use and data that the iOS advertising service may process are described below.

2. Information stored on your device

To provide library and playback features, U Music stores or accesses the following information locally on your device:

• Audio file locations, names, artists, albums, years, genres, play counts, and import dates;
• Playlists, blog content, playback queues, playback positions, and app preferences you create;
• Lyrics you import, edit, or generate with AI;
• Artwork you choose, import, or obtain through online matching;
• Music files imported through the file picker, Wi-Fi transfer, or WebDAV and managed by the app;
• WebDAV account names, server addresses, usernames, and confirmed certificate fingerprints.

WebDAV passwords are stored only in the system Keychain and aren’t written to ordinary app preferences or sent to us. On macOS, U Music stores security-scoped bookmarks for files you authorize; on iOS, audio imported through the file picker is copied into the app’s managed local storage.

3. Online matching and iTunes Search

Only when you actively use features such as online matching does U Music send a search request made from a song title, artist, album, and/or filename to Apple’s iTunes Search service to find possible matching music information.

U Music doesn’t upload full audio files, lyrics, or the music file itself to this service. We don’t retain these search requests. Returned song names, artists, albums, artwork, and preview links are used only to show candidates, help you confirm a match, and play official previews. Apple’s own privacy policy and terms apply to its services.

4. WebDAV / NAS

WebDAV connects only to a server or NAS that you configure. Files and authentication requests travel directly between your device and that server, without passing through our servers.

U Music uses HTTPS by default. The iOS app uses HTTPS only. The macOS app can use HTTP only when you explicitly allow it for a local-network server. HTTP is less secure than HTTPS and should be used only on a trusted local network.

5. Local-network Wi-Fi transfer

Only when you actively enable Wi-Fi transfer does U Music temporarily start a receiving service on the current local network. Pairing codes and session tokens are used only to transfer music files you choose directly to the current device.

Wi-Fi transfer doesn’t upload files to the internet or our servers. The temporary receiving service closes when you stop receiving.

6. AI lyric generation

When you actively download an AI lyric model in the app, U Music retrieves the Whisper model manifest and model files from GitHub Releases and installs the model on your device. AI lyric generation processes the audio file you choose with that local model; audio, lyrics, recognition results, and related metadata aren’t uploaded to our servers or a third-party AI service.

7. Advertising and third-party services

• The iOS version integrates only Google AdMob and may show app open ads when the app starts.
• The app may request App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission before loading Google AdMob ads. You choose whether to grant permission; denial does not affect music playback, importing, or other core features.
• Under its privacy policy, Google AdMob may collect or process data needed for ad delivery, attribution, frequency control, performance measurement, diagnostics, and compliance, such as device identifiers, IP address, approximate region, and ad impression and click data.
• We do not sell your music files, lyrics, or other content to advertisers, or provide music files, lyrics, playlists, or WebDAV credentials to advertising platforms for ad targeting.

7.1 macOS platform information

• The macOS version currently does not show ads or integrate the Google AdMob ad presentation flow.

8. Deletion and retention

You can delete songs, lyrics, artwork, playlists, and blog content in the app. Deleting a song also removes associated lyrics and artwork caches.

• On iOS, deleting a song removes the audio copy managed by the app. The original file imported from the Files app isn’t deleted. Audio imported through Wi-Fi or WebDAV and managed by the app is deleted with the song.
• On macOS, deleting a song removes its library record but doesn’t automatically delete the original local audio file or Wi-Fi/WebDAV audio stored locally by the app, to avoid accidental deletion.

Uninstalling the app removes data in its sandbox. U Music has no developer-operated server or user account, so there’s no cloud data deletion request to make to us.

9. Changes to this policy

If the app’s data practices materially change, we will update this privacy policy and, where applicable, the App Store privacy information.
